FRUCT: The Society

FRUCT is a voluntary, independent Open Innovations Association that unites R&D experts and students from universities, academia and industry in Russia, Finland, Ukraine and Denmark. The FRUCT program was established in 2007 by a group of enthusiasts and later was supported by University cooperation program of Nokia in Russia, Saint-Petersburg University of Airspace Instrumentation and University of Turku.

By now it became the most significant and actively growing cooperation framework between leaders of ICT industry and universities in the North-West Russia and Baltic region. At the moment the FRUCT community consists of representatives of 25 organizations, including top universities, international companies and R&D center of Russian Academy of Science. The FRUCT principle is in removing cooperation entering thresholds by setting R&D projects run by students under direct supervision of industrial and academic experts. FRUCT program is based on two modes of cooperation:
• cooperation of R&D team in joint projects;
• regular face-to-face meeting (i.e. seminars, trainings, etc.) for gathering together all members of the FRUCT community.

The main research and development interests of FRUCT are: smart spaces and future services (), mobile healthcare (http://mhealth.e-werest.org), cross-platform solutions (e.g. MeeGo, http://meego.e-werest.org) and development (e.g. Qt, http://qt.e-werest.org), mobile video, development of mobile applications, embedded networks and so on.
